I have had opportunities to pursue a "successful" career in many fields, but all have seemed in someway unethical or belittling to the very message that I would like to send to the world. Ironically, the opportunities for "success," in one way or another, typically require me to compromise myself as an artist. I am what people—including myself—might refer to as a purist, a very underground type with no interest in farce or ego but diligent and confident in my pursuit. Here I am opening myself up to opportunities with my own discretion as to whether they are consistent and feasible with my missions and goals. It is important to note that art is not simply skilled work and may come to fruition regardless of monetary compensation, but legitimate monetary compensation is necessary for any commissioning or employment. However, a lot of self respecting photographers who have are leaving Thumbtack, and I can understand why. Customers on here can be quite rude and inconsiderate. It costs a lot of money and precious time to send thoughtful upbeat quotes for them to be viewed and ignored without so much as a thank you. It's like most customers don't realize that a real person (probably one trying to run a small business) wrote that quote and message they received. Requests are often incomplete, inaccurate, or both. I say this because customers don't realize that they are cheating themselves not just the professionals when, for example, they say their budget is in a different range than it really is or that their schedule is flexible when they're adamant about when the shoot should be.
