Introduction: My name is Aileen and I'm a Pilates Instructor! I've been teaching Pilates for 10 years, and it has changed my life in a profound way. I really love what I do! I left the corporate world in 2008, and decided to switch careers. I began my Pilates apprenticeship and teacher training at Pilates Chicago completing a 450 hour apprenticeship there, and I then continued my education with Balanced Body.
What I offer in a session is an hour's time of a full body workout, based upon Pilates principles, a system of exercise that targets the deep muscles of the abdominals and spine to strengthen your body from the inside out. The Pilates Method believes that all movement should originate from the center of the body- the spine- that which houses our whole nervous system. In this idea, one sees how Pilates is more than just a series of exercises; it's a philosophy; a philosophy of being centered and grounded and strong. Flat abs, a a strong back, toned buttocks and thighs are all results of this emphasis. Pilates is also incredibly effective in addressing injuries and compensation patterns that show up as persistent back pain.
I love helping people rehabilitate injuries and find solutions for back pain! Pilates helped me to rehabilitate a persistent shoulder injury that I had assumed would remain a source of discomfort the rest of my life. I LOVE being able to help people heal themselves through movement and the mind-body connection.
I also have taught several pre-natal clients up until the 38th week, and each client experienced a very quick and relatively easy labor! Pilates is THE BEST way to continue to remain active and fit throughout pregnancy.
I will bring several key pieces of equipment for our Mat Pilates session; a fitness circle, light weights, a small ball for ab work. Any other equipment you might have available would be good to know of. Oh, and assisted stretching is a big part of Pilates and how I like to teach!!
And finally, I deeply love the long, tall, strong and confident feeling that Pilates creates in a body. This work has truly changed my life and my relationship to my body, and I am passionate about spreading the work of Joe Pilates, as it is truly transformative.
