FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My tutoring fee is $60/hour. However, depending on the nature and length of the project, I am willing to negotiate a flat fee or schedule around a student's budget.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I am happy to meet near either the Edgewater or Hyde Park neighborhoods in Chicago, or over Skype. I see my job as a tutor to both help diagnosis a student's strengths and weaknesses and devise a plan around the student's individual skill set and goals. In my experience, obstacles around reading and writing are usually, at least in part, psychological. As I work with a student, I try and reframe certain tasks to make them seem less daunting and more approachable.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I worked as a peer writing tutor for three years after taking a semester long course on style, grammar and structure at my undergraduate institution. After graduating, I worked as an independent tutor with students across grade levels and skill sets, including high school students, ESL students and students applying to graduate school and medical school. I have also worked with high school students in the South Side of Chicago on improving thier reading and writing skills. Additionally, I served as a representative on a grant writing committee where I both sponsored grant projects and supervised their development as well as reviewed grants for approval.
