I am in process of having case moved from a different law firm. Everything is going well thus far.Oct 5, 2017Verified
Thomas Scully is a brilliant attorney. He is representing me in two cases and doing a fantastic job. He's thorough, personable and a gifted writer and communicator. I shouldn't be writing this review because others are going to hire him and he'll be too busy for me - but I am compelled. Judges respect him, opposing attorneys respect him and I've had one witness tell me that if she needs an attorney, she's going to hire Thomas because he's so bright.Aug 3, 2017Verified

I hired Mr. Skully for approx. 1 1/2 months. I paid him over $2,000. to make an appearance in court for me and to file documents for the same court case. The judge in the case, The Honorable William Fehey said ( and I quote) "you need to sue Mr. Skully. He missed a court appearance and the papers for this proceeding were late." I was then fined $1,8000. Apparently, Mr. Skully sent a stand-in to appear to me and hearrived after the proceeding concluded. I PAID FOR THAT! I was then lied to by Mr. Skully who claimed that for some unknown reason "the court was "dark." "- i.e. no one was there. I asked for some of my money back- none was forthcoming. I also told Mr. Skully who was negotiating a settlement for me to "stop negotiating" when it seemed there was no resolution. In the billing summary, I was charged several times ( 2 week period) after I told him in emails & phone conversations to "STOP NEGOTIATING." Mr. Skully used to call to "see how I was doing." I thought this was so kind at the time- I later found out I was billed for his "thoughtful" calls that had I known I could have done without. Please dont hire this worthless lawyer.Oct 21, 2017VerifiedLaw Offices of Thomas Scully's reply
I was retained for limited scope to negotiate a specific settement agreement. When negotiations broke down, I was attorney of record and got entangled in very emotionally contentious litigation. I did my best to navigate this client's difficult situation, charged a very low rate, and worked many additional hours for which I was never paid. Things were unfortunately stacked agianst Ms. Fenton, since before I was retained, and she did not get the result she wanted.

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? My hourly rate for legal work is billed at $150-$200 however I can sometimes offer a flat rate if it is clear that my time spent on it will be limited. Family Law, Criminal, and Immigration issues are often a one-time flat-fee paid up front. Contingency cases require you to pay most court fees and certain costs of litigation, but the lawyer only gets paid a percentage of your recovery, if we win, typically 30%-40%.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? The initial meeting is always free, whether by telephone or in person. I need to understand your situation and help you decide the best strategy. If we both want to go forward with a representation, I will draft the retainer agreement, and begin working as your attorney on your matter.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?Juris Doctor, Loyola Law School admitted to California State Bar and Federal District Court in California
