FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I price fairly. Whether its a $100 project or a $100,000 project. You can expect an honest price, and that you will get your moneys worth. I think of everything I do as an investment of time and material, I respect that your paying for it and it should be a good product. Everything I do starts and ends with quality craftsmanship.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For me, the first step is always making a plan. I work really hard in the beginning to understand what my clients goals are, and to help them develop their goals if thats necessary. Once we both feel like I understand your goal, then we can start making a plan. Once we have a plan we execute it step by step, keeping in good dialogue throughout the process, until we reach the goal. Generally, thats how I take on a project, large or small.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been studying homes for as long as I can remember. I would always notice when a switch was to high, or far away from the door, or in the wrong place entirely. I love homes, in my teens and early 20's I would read books on natural building describing things like cob, straw bale, rammed earth, passive solar, thermal mass and grey water systems and dream of the day I could design and build my own home from the ground up. I'm still not there yet, though I have remodeled a couple for myself, and built quite a few for other people. I started as a laborer in 2007, and gradually gained experience by training under master carpenters for years. I have worked on homes worth under 100K and over 20M, but I always bring the same level of care and focus to each task. Though I am not trained in design I am familiar with autoCAD and SketchUp, because pictures really help!
