FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My competitive standard rates are on a sliding scale as follows: $35-45/30min; $53-63/45min; $70-90/60min. At-your-home lessons are more, and the travel fee ($20 minimum) depends upon where you are located. (*note that I do not travel to SF*). Most people with experience and adults take 60 minute lessons about once a week - some beginners and children under 13 typically sign up for 30 or 45 min lessons, weekly.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first step is to see where the student is at in terms of knowledge and ability, and also to learn what their goals are, if any, beyond "I want to play guitar better" (which is a good enough starting point, really). When we meet my objective is to address their technique, to see how it can be improved, or to start them out on the right track. Along the way with whatever we are working on, I continually offer support and guidance to either develop good technique, or to change bad habits.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied music in college and have been teaching guitar for 25 years. I've also have a Master's degree in psychology. Thus, my teaching addresses not only the task of learning the instrument, but also the psychological factors involved with it; such as optimal learning strategies, mind-body awareness, and a soul-love for the aesthetic of music and the guitar. After all that's what got us here in the first place!
