Introduction: Welcome to The Enlightened Core - an embodied approach to physical education and wellness. Tapping into my background in personal training, massage therapy, and performance, I believe I can help you reach your goals of health, fitness, strength, mobility, injury recovery, skill acquisition, and/or creative movement. No matter your age, background, or current fitness level, I can work with you develop a program to build a stronger relationship with movement while also feeling better in your body. Sessions are held virtually on Zoom or in-person in the East Bay Area, California (outdoor parks or home visits are both available). --- I’m Jonathan Devoto, the founder and sole practitioner at The Enlightened Core. I’m a certified personal trainer & corrective exercise specialist, as well as a certified bodywork and massage therapist. Sessions are comprised of a customized blend of exercises paired with movement & bodywork therapy, based on each client’s unique needs. I enjoy working with people of all ages and lifestyles looking to improve athletic performance, recover from injury, acquire new physical skills, reduce the impact of neuromuscular conditions, alter body composition, or anything else related to fitness and wellness coaching. My passion for health and movement is based in a life-long practice of dance, strength training, yoga, climbing, running, swimming, mixed martial arts, hiking, and more. In my mid-20’s I was diagnosed with a serious neuromuscular disorder (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy) which rendered my body nearly unusable for over two years. I’ve since recovered, and as a result have developed a huge respect for the importance of a balanced and holistic approach to health and fitness. As a trainer, I’ll help you build functional muscular strength and endurance with a focus on proper body mechanics for safety and optimized athleticism. I craft workout and recovery programs using a combination of strength and conditioning training (free weights, bodyweight, TRX, circuit training, running, biking, gymnastic rings, locomotion, hand-balancing, and more), active & passive mobility techniques, neuromuscular re-patterning, self-myofascial release, and more. I approach bodywork & massage therapy from a lens of injury prevention and rehabilitation, as well as increasing recovery time between workouts. My practice is based heavily in Western modalities such as orthopedic manual therapy, deep tissue massage, fascial stretch therapy, and Reposturing. I also incorporate Eastern methodologies and philosophy based in chi-gong, acupressure, shiatsu, Thai massage, and the chakra system. For sessions held exclusively on Zoom, I’ll teach you how to use self-myofascial release techniques on yourself, to mimic the effect of hands-on massage therapy provided by a practitioner. My coaching style is reflective of my personality: equal parts creative and disciplined, with just the right amount of goofball. I believe that health and wellness transformations are best achieved in a fun and collaborative environment, and I look forward to helping you reach your goals towards a healthier life! When I’m not working, I enjoy playing/listening to music, dancing, practicing hand-balancing, learning how to juggle, cooking a healthy new meal, spending time with friends and family, or simply relaxing in nature.
