Introduction: Hi, I'm Margaret, a young professional specializing in effective written communication. In addition to writing, I have many passions -- music, languages, the humanities, education, healthcare, animals -- and especially love working on projects in those areas.
I've been helping my older brother with his papers since I was 13, so while I'm new to Thumbtack.com, writing and editing are my old friends. I received my bachelor's degrees in English and Music from Viterbo University (La Crosse, WI) in 2015. I like to say they make me highly qualified to use words and sing opera. No, really, I am an opera singer, and I'm currently working on my master's degree in opera.
Before starting graduate school, I worked as a copywriter at a small boutique marketing agency in a suburb of Milwaukee where I got bit by the marketing bug (and may or may not have mildly annoyed a few of my coworkers with my propensity for meticulous precision with language -- see oxford comma debate). I love the fast-paced and ever-changing nature of marketing work, and my favorite part is learning something new about the world in the process.
I've always loved telling a good story, and writing is one of the many mediums I enjoy using. As a copywriter, I tell the story of a business and its brand, and I love every step of the process -- from learning about the business and industry to the tenth time proofreading my work to make sure it's flawless before it's published. Every new project is a new opportunity to learn more about the world, and it further diversifies my global perspective. My varied experience has not only taught me to be flexible but also uniquely equips me with a smattering of random knowledge in fields like music, literature, language, education, healthcare, and hobbies, which I enjoy applying to new projects.
