- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started working with IT back in 1984 at LA city college when I took my first course in computing called “Information Processing”. In those days, we still had not normalized the lexicon of IT. So, that was the best they could come up with for what is now “Intro to Programming” (anyone remember punch-cards). I started fixing computers when I got my hands on an old IBM machine running Windows 3.1 in 1990. I constantly pushed that poor little thing past it limits, and upgraded it a bazillion times. I used it to build my first website in 1994. After that I just kept falling into IT gigs developing websites, and helping people get connected to this new growth in the world called the World Wide Web. After more formal education and getting a degree in Philosophy from UC Berkeley, I started working for Berkeley on one of their IT programs that needed to be brought into the 20th century (UNIX green screens – Yipes!). if you have attended UCB since 2004 you would know it as your DARS report. After that, I worked for a computer repair shop in Los Altos and a premier Managed Service Provider out of Oakland. Now, I have returned to my love of people, and resolving issues for small business where the personal rewards far outweigh the need for a big paycheck.
