Dr. Sierra-Montes taught me 9th grade biology and 10th and 11th grade biotechnology 1-2. She was an amazing teacher who really cared about her students and their capacity to learn the most they could from her. She was always willing to help out if we didn't understand something and made learning fun by engaging us in fun activities instead of just lectures. These activities included creating model dinosaurs after learning about them in class, modeling different parts of a fictional planet that would actually be able to thrive, understanding viruses and trying to create a fake virus that would be devastating to the public based on it's properties, creating a classwide debate and fake trial to go about learning bioethical issues, and working together to create a biotechnology company with a wide use based on need that we later presented to not only students but faculty and parents by participating in our schoolwide farmer's markets. Everything that Dr. Sierra-Montes has taught me I still remember 8 years later and I know that she is one of the biggest reasons I was able to thrive in high school, college, and now entering medical school.

I had the honor to have Dr. Sierra - Montes as my teacher in Biology my freshman year of high school. She is an extremely passionate scientist with not only a a love for educating, but for each of her students. She is personable, creative, present and actively strives to develop new and interactive ways to engage her class. Hands down, one of the best teachers I have ever had. Being a student not interested in the sciences at all, she kept me committed and inspired to do my absolute best and WORK for my grade. Although I have not sat in her classroom in over seven years, she is still actively present in my life and continues to encourage me on my journey despite it's venture away from the realm of her profession.

I have a PhD in Biology majoring in Molecular Biology. A MS equivalent from CW Post/LI University and a BS in Biology from George Washington University. Studied aerospace engineering for two years at MIT.
