FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I always start by visiting the home. I have a chance to see my client's style, as well as the space(s) in question. I'll take dimensions and photos to reference. From there I work on a concept for the space which includes fabrics, finishes, and possible furniture options, maybe a drawing or two - anything I need to get my design concept across. If you like what I present we move on to detailed drawings and product quotes. If the project is a full remodel or renovation, I have a team of professionals that can get the job done, but I can also work with any tradespeople my client prefers. The earlier a designer is brought into a project of this scale the better for the client and trades.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
As a child, my mom dragged me through every antique store in the Midwest. She decorated our home beautifully and meticulously. She renovated the kitchens in both of my childhood homes and taught the "professionals" a thing or two along the way. I was born into it. I started out in Fashion Design and quickly realized I made a mistake by not going straight into Interior Design. I went back to school after working at an Inn in Newport, RI, where I assisted the owner in designing and decorating three suites. It came natural to me and I loved it. While in school the second time, I was lucky enough to find my mentor in tiny Kent, Connecticut. She taught me so much, including the lesson that having a discerning eye is what sets you apart from the pack. She required NKBA standards in all areas and, as a result, so do I. I worked under her for three years before moving back to Indianapolis.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
My clientele range from the modest middle class to the elaborate high-end. I can work with any realistic budget. I am also a fan of hands-on DIY projects, and can help my clients by recommending projects that they can do on their own.
