Introduction: I am a freelance journalist with bylines in Jacksonville Magazine, The Borgen Project, EU Jacksonville, the Florida Times-Union, and The Consumer's Corner.
As a high school student, I attended Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in Jacksonville, Florida as a creative writing major and Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Natick, Massachusetts as a writing and publishing major. I attended Florida State College at Jacksonville where I served as the associate editor of the student paper The Campus Voice, received A’s in my English classes, and worked as a student aid in three freshman English classes. I am hoping to continue my education at the University of Texas at Austin to further study English and journalism.
I have had the pleasure of working with young students on their English comprehension skills. Common activities included acting out stories we read to ensure comprehension and having students “live-illustrate” books I read aloud. In the summer of 2015, I tutored an elementary school student in English and was his reading coach. I continue to aid FSCJ students in editing their essays and understanding texts.
I have a passion for the English language, both spoken and written, and love to pass this along to the students I tutor. I enjoy exposing my students to new texts and authors as well as writing styles.
