Marriage and Relationship Counseling
I'm so glad to have found Cheryl when I did, my husband and I have been having huge problems communicating effectively and were caught in a vicious cycle. She has helped us to begin to break that cycle, and be more aware of what & how we're communicating with each other. My husband struggles with many issues, alcohol addiction is the biggest driving force for why we are unable to work through anything. Cheryl has created a very calm and understanding environment, and we have both left each session with more understanding and compassion for each other. Even my husband has told me that he feels lighter when we leave a session, and this is coming from a man who does not like talking about his problems openly, much less his feelings. I feel like we are on the right path finally; we still have a lot of work ahead of us, but at least we are making forward progress for once.Mar 22, 2018Verified

She reputed her fee was 75.00 a hour! She failed today it was another 75.00 first time visit for “paper work”! A lot of the conversation was on one subject I brought up! Tried to get back with her wanting my extra 75.00 back! No response! Vey disgusted in her not reaching back to me. It may help if you get back to her! Maybe you can retrieve my extra 75.00 back! Money does not gown on trees!Nov 7, 2017Thrive Counseling's reply
Dear Anonymous, thank you for expressing your concerns. My thumbtack profile states the initial visit is $175. The quote says that future visits are based on annual household income from $75 per session and up. Our office requested you to arrive 20 minutes early to fill out paperwork prior to the session to which you agreed. This would have given you more time in session. Unfortunately you arrived five minutes late for the actual session (25 minutes later) so you spent more time filling out mandatory paperwork. I understand things happen and how this added to your frustration. I also reviewed the fee verbally in session and you initialed and signed giving consent to have the session. You contacted me on Friday while I was out of town at my other practice and again at 9:16pm last night. I would have returned the call during business hours today. I’m sorry you felt we focused too long on the biggest concern you brought up. We don’t give refunds for psychotherapy which is also stated in our agreement that you signed. However, I am happy to offer your next session free to talk about the other things you didn’t mention in our first session. Please let me know. Thank you again for expressing your concern. To improve this situation I am working with Thumbtack corporate office on a conference call this evening to make the fees easier for customers to see rather than just in the profile section. I will share your concerns as well. I hope you will accept my apology and also my offer of the next session being free. Warm Regards, Cheryl
Therapy and Counseling
Cheryl has been a wonderful counselor. Combining her knowledgable experience with her openness and understanding, she has helped me cope with both my recent problems with grief and my long-term issues. I feel understood and respected, and because of Cheryl I now have a new way of framing my perspective and a set of tools for personal situations. I would recommend her to anyone seeking quality counseling.Dec 8, 2016Verified

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Therapy is an investment in your emotional health and well being. I am considered an out of network provider. This means you pay for services and submit the billable receipt or super bill to your insurance company. What ever your benefits are with your insurance is what applies. I do offer a sliding scale fee based on annual household income. This fee ranges from $85-$175 per session while most people fall into the $85-$125 per session rate after the initial intake session. My intake session is 60 minutes and includes a onetime new patient fee.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?Typically a client books their intake session first by texting or calling for an appointment. The next step would be for me to send you the intake documents at that time. This gives you the comfort of filling out documents at home at your leisure. At this point we would have a session scheduled to complete your intake. At that time I will learn specifics about your circumstances and I let you know a plan moving forward and how I believe I can help. If I believe there is someone better suited to help you I will let you know that too.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a Master’s in Counseling and a specialty in Marriage, Couple and Family therapy. I am also a Certified Play Therapist. I continue to improve my skills through advanced trainings several times a year and reading multiple clinical books monthly. I also have had the honor of being asked by my previous professors to teach graduate students at MidAmerica Nazarene University in their final coursework before graduating and becoming therapist themselves.
