FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I typically charge $20/hr for labor, or the same as the material cost, dependant upon the scope of the project, or if special tools are required.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Meet up and get a feel of what they are aiming for, as in: just repair for functionality at the cheapest expense, or upgrade for aesthetics. Assess the work area to see if there's any damage that needs to be addressed first, and get a general feel for what I'm getting myself involved in. As in, has the home been taken care of/maintained, or am I going to run into more problems along the way. Find out what materials they are wanting to use, and how they want it to look, as well as go over different options and how it will affect other aspects of their home. Measure everything out and take detailed notes or drawings for future reference. Research material costs from multiple locations to keep costs as low as possible, without sacrificing quality. Compile a quote and a time frame Once an agreement has been reached, I try to complete the project as quickly and efficiently as possible, so as to gain another positive reference and or a repeat customer.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Aside from the minimal training I received in school shop, I'm a 4th generation carpenter, so I've been learning carpentry most of my life. Besides working with my family doing remodels and building houses from start to finish, I've worked for many different construction companies. I like learning different ways to do things, so that I can glean the best way from them.
