I was working at the City of Mountlake Terrace with the Finance Director who needed someone to create a process that would eliminate the amount of time it would take her to prepare the financial statements, required paperwork to the Washington State Department of Auditors, reconciliation of daily activities for city hall, recreation center and the police department which was currently taking 5 people a month or longer to accomplish. By using excel and several different formulas, I was able to create a spreadsheet that pulled in all of the information that was needed on all the reports and condense them into one area saving on 5 people an average of 1,000 hours each year, 2 people an average of 200 hours each quarter and the finance director frustration with having to figure out why her numbers were never adding up.
