What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
When you call or email Country Critters Pet Sitters (CCPS), a staff member or myself, the owner, will arrange a free consultation visit to your home. This should happen shortly before you need to leave for your trip. Your initial consult is 45-60 min and is important part of our new client process. It must take place in your home with all applicable pets present. We take this time to meet you and your pets and get detailed information about caring for them. We will sign a contract, provide invoicing, and pick up a key to your home or apartment at this time.
We will then send you a sign up email to set you up with a client profile and receive texted or emailed pet visit notes. This also allows you to schedule subsequent visits and even pay your invoicing. All is done through our mobile app or accessible online.
We will commence with pet sitting services, on dates scheduled and as agreed. Once your first visits are arranged and a contract is on file, any subsequent visits can be arranged by phone, email, or through our client mobile app in the client portal.
When you return from your trip, you will call CCPS (or your pet sitter will call you), return your key (if requested), and make sure you and your pet are satisfied. A follow up email and feedback survey is sent, to complete.
The next step - is planning your next trip!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
We have collectively gained over 40 years of experience with raising, training, and caring for our own and other people's pets and barnyard animals.
We annually certify in pet CPR/First Aid, Animal behavioral training, and safety. Plus I have 13+ years of satisfied Pet Sitting clients.
I also have an AA in Business Administration (2013) and a BA in business management and organizational leadership (2017).
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was raised on a Dairy Farm in Redland Oregon. We always had pets and animals in our care. Knowing how much they depend on people for their lives and wellbeing, was one way we learned to appreciate and meet the need of their owners.
Loving pets and animals, does not always mean you should become Noah on the Ark. We may not be able to care for all pets out there, but we can care for and enjoy the loving company of other people's pets when they need us.
What types of customers have you worked with?
We have worked with military families, seniors, farmers, neighbors, friends, frequent travelers, local hotel guests, business professionals, emergency situations and clients who are ill.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
We had a great experience with a family who went on vacation for two weeks to Hawaii. They had two adorable terriers who were always happy to see us. We gave them a special diet and went on daily dog walks, as part of their customized pet sitting service. The family had a beautiful view of the river from their home. We could always imagine being with the family in Hawaii. When the family returned, we were provided a small Hawaiian gift of gratitude that we still have at headquarters. It's a reminder of the impact we have with the little things we do for families.
We continue to serve their family, as they go on trips around the world. They are a part of the CCPS family. We love our job because it brings joy and piece of mind to the families we serve, always knowing their home and pets are professionally and compassionately cared for while they are gone.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
My advice would always be to interview and hire a reputable and qualified pet sitter, instead of relying on a neighbor or friend. Getting a company or individual who can prove they are licensed, bonded and insured is a positive sign they are professional and you, your home, and your pets are protected.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
The company and provider should have a contract, their background checked, insurance documents and have been in business for at least 3-5 years.
New businesses start up all the time & yet fail to provide the quality & standards of service you deserve. Your home and pets are much more valuable than that. As it is often said in this industry - "Get a real petsitter!"
