Introduction: I’m Victoria Song, a venture capitalist, entrepreneur, and graduate of Harvard Business School, Class of 2014. Previously, I worked at Google[x] on Project Loon. Most recently, I worked in venture capital at Flybridge in Boston and NYC where I invested in Tracelytics (acquired by AppNeta), Crashlytics (acquired by Twitter) and led their consumer practice investing in ParachuteHome, Raden, ShineText and Omni. I continue to invest in early-stage companies, mentor entrepreneurs, and dabble in my own startups. I am also the Founder and CEO of So She Did, the resource I always wished I had to help young women better invest in themselves from the inside out.
With these experiences, I have been honored to give motivational speeches and talks on a variety of subjects.
What I love about investing: I am passionate about investing in the change I want to see, and supporting founders who are going to change the world. What would the world look like if doing good weren't an afterthought? If it were part of the plan all along...
What I love about my nonprofit, SoSheDid: From a young age, girls are taught to focus on feeling good from the outside. They learn to see themselves through a narrow lens: how attractive they are. They absorb this message through movies, TV shows, books, magazines, and popular music. The entire goal is to find love through being physically desirable. And if they do that, then maybe, if they’re lucky, they will feel good on the inside – feel good about who they are as people. At So She Did, we believe this approach is backward – it puts the outside surface before the inside substance. Playing with fashion and beauty is fun, but it can’t be the source of our self-confidence. Self-esteem doesn’t come in a bottle.
I now focus on helping both men and women find and strengthen their internal compass, looking inward to define their own measure of self worth. By building this internally, instead of living for external validation, men and women alike are able to become their most authentic self. There is no greater high than believing in yourself.
Through my motivational talks, I am able to communicate these values as well as other topics, to a wider audience.
