FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I only do personal lessons at the moment so I tend to charge per class. There are considerations depending on the person's financial situation.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I always start with a consultation with any new student to find out what their goals are as well as their current level of martial arts or meditation experience and fitness level. With this I set them up with a personalized training menu geared towards their interests.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I myself have been training for 7 years in practical self defence and teaching for 1 year. The goal of my own training is practical combat techniques for urban self defence applicable against assailants both armed and unarmed, thus my actual combat experience has been fighting martial artists of various styles without protection of pads. Luckily I've only had to actually use self defence a few times in my life but those few times have given me extra insight into the realities of having to defend yourself in an urban environment as well as how to diffuse heated situations without the use of violence. I focus on striking techniques and soft styles such as those seen in East Asian martial disciplines. Baji, Tai Chi, and Okinawan Karate are a few of the disciplines that have inspired me and helped to form ISB self defence. On a side note I have been teaching qi cultivation meditation separately for 5 years and have personally been meditating since I was a kid so everything I teach comes with a heavy dose of humility and a peaceful warrior mindset. This, I believe is the true strength behind my martial arts.
