Introduction: CultureWorks is my consulting company that provides excellent English writing/editing and comprehensive tutoring to U.S. and international students at the college undergraduate and graduate school level. As a college professor I have taught anthropology, social science theory, Japanese culture and history, western political theory, freshman year writing, women and gender studies, and ESL at Lewis and Clark College, Earlham College, UC Berkeley, and Yale University. I have over 25 years experience in teaching, research, academic advising, and grading student papers for native English and non-native English speakers. Fluent in Japanese, I am also available to tutor Japanese students who need reading, writing, and editing assistance in their college assignments. In addition I offer copy editing, proofreading, editing for content and context of papers, journal and magazine articles, manuscripts of varying lengths and in a range of genres (including memoir, trade books, novels, short stories). Finally, I enjoy teaching workshops of varying levels and lengths to business people who need basic proficiency (language, culture, geography, history) in working with Japanese and other East Asian business clients and partners abroad and in the U.S. I offer a dynamic workshop or seminar-length experience.
An enthusiastic and patient mentor, I will help you to improve your speaking, reading, and writing skills. I am also an energetic and knowledgable teacher, happy to design workshops that meet your needs in conducting business with American, Japanese, or other foreign clients. My sessions can be one-on-one or in small groups or any preferred combination to suit your learning and business needs.
