Counseling goals
Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: My approach is rooted in Buddhist-oriented counseling, also known as contemplative psychotherapy or mindfulness counseling. The core of our time together is to bring awareness to ingrained and subconscious patterns which perpetuate suffering and difficulty, then work to cultivate new habits of relating with both ourselves and the world around us. With this approach, we are doing more than simply addressing the issue at hand; we are taming and training the mind itself. In my experience, this is an incredibly skillful method for handling whatever comes our way in life with clarity, wisdom and openness. It's satisfying to watch people shift deeply ingrained habits in a matter of weeks or months, and cultivate new ways of relating with both themselves, their loved ones and the world around them with increasing clarity, joy and lightness; which they can then take with them for the rest of their lives.

I was referred to Todd by a friend. I immediately felt comfortable with him, his energy is calm and inviting. He was incredibly helpful in guiding me through a particularly difficult transition in my life. Highly recommended.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My counseling fee is $100/hour. I also reserve a few sliding scale appointments each week ranging between $60-$80 for those who qualify. Additionally, meditation instruction and support is $40 for thirty minutes.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I like to begin with a 15 minute consultation, to find out what the client is looking for, and to see if we're a good fit for counseling. The first session is mostly information gathering, as we'll lay out what we're hoping to accomplish in our time together, as well as how we'll go about accomplishing this.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have an M.A. from Naropa University in Contemplative Psychotherapy. Following this, I spent seven years in intensive meditation practice and study as it relates to integrating mindfulness and awareness practice into daily life, under the direct guidance of Tibetan Buddhist teachers Thinley Norbu Rinpoche and Lama Tharchin Rinpoche.
