Jacob and his construction team replaced my lawn with beautiful xeriscaping and built a new open lattice awning over our kitchen patio. The results were exactly as I specified, with Jacob helping me identify the right succulents for the new yard. His price was far less than the other bidders, and my wife and I are looking forward to getting more help from Form & Focus on our next project!

We asked Form & Focus to design and re-landscape our front, side and back yards to give us a Southwest Zen feel. Their designer, Katie, worked closely with us to give us just what we wanted working within our budget. Her design included a Japanese style Zen garden (at our request) and new flagstone patio while using colorful stone to significantly reduce the area of our yard that needed watering. We did keep some areas of lawn, but used a new type of drought resistant grass called UC Verde buffalo grass (developed specifically for California by the University of California) that can be maintained at a meadow length, and which fits in perfectly with our natural Zen approach. The project took about 2 weeks to install and was carefully supervised by Jacob and Aaron on a daily basis. They worked with us to make adjustments to the various areas of the design as we moved along, so that everything was sized and shaped to our specs. Their people arrived promptly every day and worked through 100+ degree heat to keep us on schedule, cleaning up each night before they left. Here's what they did for us: demolition of existing landscape, installation of artificial turf, installation of flagstone/decomposed granite walkway/patio, installation of Zen garden including a 1,200 pound boulder, conversion to drip sprinkler system, installation of borders and decorative rock, installation of drought resistant grass and plants throughout. They were a pleasure to work with and I would not hesitate to use Form & Focus for future work.

Jacob and team did several different phases to shape up our back yard. They were very responsive in the beginning, however, as the project came along, it seemed like they were losing interest and were not attentive to details. We had to call them out at least 4 different times to fix/adjust the installed irrigation. Because there was no shut off valve added to the irrigation, there was an incident that flooded our back yard whilst we were at work, and once we got back, we had to turn off the water to the whole house until someone could come out and fix it! The DG path that was first laid for us was very uneven and had loose areas where your footsteps would sink in. Although both the irrigation and DG were eventually fixed, we had to stay on top of the team to get it done. Eventually, Jacob simply stopped responding mid-project once some of the line-items had been completed and paid for, and we now have a pile of debris sitting in the yard that was never picked up to dump. I am now out of pocket about $100 to get all that disposed of by another contractor plus the hassle of finding someone to finish the job. The prices aren't as high as some of the other landscaping companies, but they're not exactly cheap either. They did a good job planting the trees, and the finishing on the retaining walls and deck that were built was pure perfection. I would still shop elsewhere with the mixed bag of quality and responsiveness we got.
