Introduction: Writing can feel like a unique form of torture. Maybe you aren’t sure where to start. Maybe you’ve started a draft but most of what you’ve written feels like a series of clichés that don’t really reflect who you are. Many people are brilliant thinkers and speakers who have difficulty translating their ideas to the page. That's where a writing coach comes in.
As a Harvard PhD and award-winning author with over a decade of experience teaching at Stanford and Harvard, I am a writing coach who helps clients develop the confidence, clarity, and discipline that are essential to successful writing, whether it’s an application essay or a school assignment.
Admissions: My clients have earned admission to top undergraduate schools and graduate programs including NYU, Berkeley, Tulane, Wellesley, and Wesleyan. Instead of the one-size-fits-all approach that many admissions consultants adopt, I work with clients to develop a targeted plan that considers the specific requirements of different kinds of programs (a business school essay needs to do something different from a college essay) and uses your individual strengths to address areas for improvement. I will help you identify the through-lines of your life and career and construct powerful written narratives of where you’ve been, where you are, and where you plan to go.
Instead of charging you a large one-time fee like many other application advisers, I develop a personalized schedule for our work together that uses our time--and your money--efficiently and effectively. In as few as five one-hour sessions, you will have an application packet that shows off why you would be an asset to your favored educational institutions.
Academic writing: I also draw on my teaching and writing experience to provide tutoring to high school and college students working on school writing assignments, helping them move from brainstorming to drafting to polishing the final product. These sessions, which address everything from word choice and sentence structure to more sophisticated argumentation, help students develop critical thinking and writing skills that serve them well not only in school but also in their future careers.
While I enjoy giving lectures to large college classes, my most fulfilling interactions with students are one on one. I love helping others discover what they really have to say and transform those ideas into effective writing. Let's begin!
