Introduction: We are TINY MONSTER -- a San Francisco-based design studio led by architect Kevin Short and designer Kathryn Heller. With a focus on contemporary design, our work blends an eclectic modern style with California comfort. Whether you're renovating your home, building a new commercial project, or something in between, we'll work with you to build a space that's beautiful and fits your needs. With over 10 years of design experience, we established our practice in 2017 after renovating our Mission District loft, where we now run the studio. Our design studio is full-service, meaning we help our clients design and manage their projects from end to end. Services offered include conceptual design, material & finish selection, furniture selection, construction drawings, permitting, schedule & cost tracking, contractor bidding, and construction management.

I worked with Kevin to design an outdoor Kitchen space in Berkeley, and couldn't have been happier with the results. Kevin is professional, detail-oriented, clear in his communication (emails have due dates and bullet points, mock-ups, and comps) and .. he gets the work done on time. It's not easy to find someone that is able to efficiently manage so many details. (Trust me, I looked). We had pretty tough electrical and water restraints on the space, not to mention permits and .. neighbors with opinions. And of course, there's the construction crew and budgets to navigate. Some highlights: * Great renderings and options (!!) (e.g., exterior style, materials, multiple layouts) even though I wasn't able to define what I wanted at first. * Solid communication of everything from design to build-out kinks to permits (Kevin is a total people person) * Ideas that saved me from major structural headaches (and saved me a few thousand) * Highly responsive (and answered each of my questions as opposed to others that responded to maybe 70 percent) * Meticulous & follows up Kevin helped me realize that having someone .. talented and communicative... And *experienced* ends up being cheaper in the end. Couldn't recommend him more highly

Kevin is a great architect and I had a wonderful experience working with him. He has helped me with a couple of projects where intuitive design and problem-solving skills were a must. He understood the necessities of the projects and created designs that satisfied all those requirements in a practical yet aesthetically pleasing way. He is also professional, easy to communicate with, very creative and detail oriented. I highly recommend working with him.

We offer both fixed-fee and hourly rates for our clients. No two projects are alike, so we'll work to figure out of the best fee structure for your particular project!
