Introduction: Math Makes Sense provides convenient tutoring services for all ages in elementary math, pre- algebra, alegebra I & geometry. Math Makes Sense focuses on making an effort to present math as something that can actually be fun. I think my enthusiasm and excitement about math helps students see that maybe it's not so terrible. That's my goal! I want students to at least be able to enjoy math enough that they don't hate it and can see how they could use it in life. I enjoy helping students take the time to understand math concepts. Want to get better at math? I recommend avoiding the urge to cram. While you might be able to rely on quick pre-test memorization in some subjects, it often makes things more difficult in the long run with math. Math builds on itself so much. I find students struggle with higher levels of math because they don't remember what they learned before because they took the ‘cram for the test' approach, and then they just brain dumped it. It'd be better if they would start from the beginning of their math career realizing that they really need to remember everything they learn. Everything, of course, is an awfully big word. But that's where a tutor can help. I enjoy helping students figure out the most important things to remember.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I'm Cassandra. I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth and received an award for highest ranked female in Electrical Engineering. I worked in the engineering field for 10 years up until I got married and started raising my family. During my time working as an engineer, I always missed being in the classroom learning math, so I started tutoring part-time in all subject areas, including elementary math, algebra, calculus, Circuit Theory, science, history & English. Although, I have experience tutoring in all subjects, my focus lies in math. I started tutoring in pre- algebra in the 7th grade when I was approached by my 7th grade math teacher. Not only did she believe I understood the subject so well but I had a way of explaining the information to my fellow peers that helped them make sense of the concepts. I also tutor my 2 kids, a 6 year old girl in 1st grade and an 11 year old boy in middle school, who both do very well. My oldest is in advanced 6th grade math taking algebra & geometry, and through tutoring him in these advanced courses, I have re- discovered my love for math again & I'm loving it! I look forward to working with you. I want to benefit the students I work with as much as possible, and therefore, welcome any resources or suggestions students or parents can provide. I am easy to reach and will always provide fast responses. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or to schedule a lesson! I will help you realize how simple & fun math can be! If you are willing to learn, I can help improve your math grade. Contact me to schedule your lesson today!
