FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Under the "Thumbtack" system, I generally end up quoting a fee range on a "dollars per square foot of livable space". The size of the project, and the complexity in terms of massing/form and detailing can have a big impact one way or another on the overall effort involved. Once I meet with a client to understand more clearly what they're after, and see the property where they want to do the project, I can usually give a more exact "dollars per square foot" quote.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Master of Architecture, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Bachelor of Architecture, University of Arizona LEED BD+C NCARB Certificate (I can easily obtain registration in most states)
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
A book about residential architecture was the last book my grandfather had given me before he passed away, and it really made an impression on me. I'd planned on studying engineering in school, but switched to architecture a few weeks before my freshman year started. My dad (an engineer by training of course!), was not pleased, but I enjoyed it right from the get go - finding it an amazing mix of art, design, technology, history - I still think it's unique in that respect.
