- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?Studied electronics engineering at Devry Technical institute. Military service from 1981 to 1987 as a Tactical Wire and Electronics Specialist. Self taught computer programmer, builder and repair. Wrote books on intercom and cctv repair techniques.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?I started all this when I was introduced to the world of electronics back in 1977. Then I went to the army where I took a course in communications. After that I worked for Loeffler intercom systems for 30 years as a service mananager and electronics design engineer. I still enjoy designing intercom and electronic systems using computer aided design and 3D rendering software to show customers how a system will look before it’s even installed. We use Maya 3D and Autocad 3D software for all renderings and animation projects.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?I would say to any potential customer to shop around and compare before hiring a so called professional. Many techs claim to know about repairing intercom and security systems but very few of us know it from an engineering standpoint. And be advised: the pros with the highest prices don’t necessarily mean they are the best techs. Some of us do this for the fun of it so we may not charge astronomical prices.
