FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For wedding clients I reply to an inquiry, send pricing and offer to take them out for coffee to talk about their needs. Upon booking I require a 50% retainer and contract signing to hold the date. I like to schedule engagement photos at this time if possible as well. For portrait work I will do an initial consult via email or phone and if they decide to book, set a date, draw up a personalized contract with a model release and get a 25% retainer fee to hold their session time.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I first discovered a love for photos when I was 12 with disposable film cameras. I really started after my son was born when I was 20 though. I wanted to be able to take better photos of him. Then I started taking photos for family and friends about 6 years ago. My first wedding 3 years ago was one of my closest friends, and then I did my sister-in-law's a few months later and found I loved weddings!
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Find someone whose style you love. Having an initial meeting also gives you a chance to get to know them. If you're looking for a wedding photographer keep in mind that your photographer is going to spend most of the day with you so finding someone you can build relationship with and enjoy being around is a huge plus as well. : )
