FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
A lot of factors go into pricing a job. While some want to get a quick price over email or phone, 9 times out of 10 this leads to inaccuracies and misunderstandings. Instead, I like to see the job in person and see for myself what is going on -- how big the job is, whether there's complications such as rot, and other factors that give me the big picture. In addition to the job itself, I also charge a 15% materials handling fee which covers the cost of arranging for and picking up the materials. For instance, if I need to pick up $100 of materials, my fee will be $15.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to have a one-on-one meeting with clients before giving a price. This gives me the opportunity to look at the job, see what needs to be done, and talk with the client about their questions, concerns and budget. From this, I can give them an accurate estimate with a detailed scope of work, including estimated availability and the time it will take to complete the job.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've worked over 10 years in construction, in which time I apprenticed for carpenters whom I both admire and respect. This gave me experience on a variety of job sites from million dollar homes to commercial buildings, and even simple garage projects. No matter the size of the project, I've always been taught to take pride in my work.
