FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I do. I rely heavily on referrals to maintain my business, not high pricing. All of my standard rates are on my website at shellywhitfieldphotography.com. I can discuss any special requests that don't fall within the services listed there. While I do rely on this type of work for a living, I'm not interested in overcharging and I take care to set pricing that is affordable.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I start with asking a series of questions about the obvious - interests, job, etc. But I also ask if they have a style of photography in mind or even if they want to provide some reference images. I also ask them to tell me about significant life events and any concerns they may have about the session - personal, physical or otherwise. This helps me understand who they are as a person and give them the best portraits.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been a hobbyist photographer for many years and have spent countless hours learning the technical aspects and studying the work of other photographers. I have three kids who all played varsity level sports so I've taken thousands of shots of them on the court or field. I suppose that's how I started. From there I started taking portraits from time to time with great results. My 'fun photography' is still life. I also worked in Creative Services with a global outdoor products manufacturer and was actively involved in photo and video production. Most recently, I was a partner with a local marketing agency, directly responsible for management and production of all photo and video media. I had a great team of guys who loved their craft and also contributed to my ongoing education.
