FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I help my clients set goals for counseling that are meaningful to them. During each session interventions and/or activities are done to move toward achieving the goals set. Throughout our work the goals are reviewed in order to determine if progress is being made and if adjustments are needed. I encourage every client to apply the strategies and tools learned in counseling to their everyday life because that's when change happens. I get, at most, one hour per week to help change their lives. What they do after leaving my office is essential to their progress.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Counseling. I have over eight years of training and experience in the field of mental health and social services. As a licensed professional it is required that I obtain continuing education hours in order to maintain my license. I am a lifetime student. I receive trainings locally and nationally from licensed and accredited mental health organizations. I am always looking for trainings that will help me provide my clients with a high level of care.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
As a teen I was interested in helping people. I didn't have the stomach to be a doctor or nurse, but after taking my first psychology course in high school, I was hooked. Also, having a wise mother, with incredible boundaries and natural insight into people, set me in this direction. I continue learning more and more and enjoy the work and the people more and more. I have met the most amazing people in this line of work.
