My husband and I had carpet installed in our home. My first impression of Mr. Francisco he was so professional. He was on time for his appointments if he was running late he was text me or call and less than five minutes he was at our house. I could not believe the excellent work he did in stalling our carpet. He cleaned up after the job was completed he even helped my husband put back some of the furniture in the rooms. His price for the installation of the carpet was great he even beat out home depot price they had quoted us. He is very responsible and dependable my husband could not stop talking about how great of a job he did I got home and looked at the carpet I was just blown over with the great job he did. We have already recommended him to our neighbor next door. We will also be using him to put down our hardwood floors and build your deck. If anyone is looking for someone who is professional, clean, pleasant personality I would recommend Francisco. My husband and I are giving Francisco 15 thumbs up- GREAT JOB FRANCISCO--- A JOB VERY WELL DONE

My work experience with Rolando Medrano was awesome. The job entailed putting down hardwood flooring. The quality of the work was very impressive and done with precision . Most importantly, his level of professionalism was always maintained. He came to work and completed the job. With that in mind, I would highly recommend him for any job. Keep up the outstanding work !

We needed our rectory cleaned for the priest to move-in. People were still working in the rectory painting and some finishing work. Jebrenna and her team did an excellent job cleaning all the rooms and working around the painters, etc. The painters had dropped spots of paint on the floor and she discussed with me that she got up the spots that came up easily but did not bother the others because she didn't want to damage the floors. The whole experience was very professional and the priest was pleased with the job. Job well done!!

Hired for a tile job in a bathroom floor. Did a very professional job and took time to make sure it was done right. Even made sure I was happy every step of the way and offered to fix anything if I needed but was not even a need since it all turned out beautiful!

Burnside Home Improvement provided excellent work quality with repairing the floor in my mobile home. I had a small leak around the back door that caused the wood to rotten. BHI repaired the frame around my back door to stop the leak and repaired the rotten wood on the floor and installed tile on the floor in the hallway. I was very satisfied with the work quality, professionalism and value for the service I received. I have an appointment to have my central-heating and cooling unit repaired.

I'm more than happy to be the first to review Remi at Face Wood Flooring here. His workmanship and quality were excellent, and his price was very reasonable. He was also very helpful in advising us on what to get to match our existing wood floors and even met us at the supply store. We had a hard time finding someone to respond to us and I'm glad Remi did. Highly recommend!

Amazingly fast and efficient! My floors were 80 years old and had never been refinished since the house was built and they look just like I imagine they looked when they were first out down!

These guys were fantastic! I called them December 5 and they were painting the exterior and interior of my house by December 12. They finished in just a few days. I was very impressed with their professionalism and their attention to detail. My exterior needed a lot of caulking and they fixed it. Looks like a new house. I love the fresh smell of the new paint in the interior and they helped me pick a blue color that looks amazing next to my natural bamboo floors. It was perfect just in time for the holidays!

The work done on our total bathroom remodel and the attention to detail could not have been better. Instead of a "rush job," they took time to do work that will last. They redid some of the sub-flooring and joist work that other contractors might have accepted as "good enough," which made Murray's work truly excellent. Their finishing touches were show-room quality. For any work in the future, we will definitely call Murray's Flooring. We couldn't be happier. (And nice guys, too; very pleasant to work with.)

Mike and DB did a fantastic job on installing our master bath shower and floor tile. They show up on time, work hard, and are easy to work with. They protect work areas and walk paths inside the house while working and then clean up and take any debris with them when they finish. They don't take short cuts, either. I had an issue from a previous floor tile job done by someone else and Mike and DB made sure to correct the old issues and got the floor just perfect. A couple of real professionals and all around great guys. You can't go wrong with them. Thanks again, Mike and DB, and God bless you both. You guys are awesome!

We had a home built in the fifty's by a bunch a farmers. There was not a plumb and square room in the house. We where selling the house and had moved to our new location, well some criminals broke in and stole the wiring and heat pump. Tore out the sheet-rock and destroyed the home. Robert came in and remodel the house and rewired the home redid the cabinets and counter tops, added walls and changed the layout of the house and made it better and more comfortable. Came in on budget and the house sold within three weeks of the overhaul, Oh yeah turned me on to a flooring company which redid the hardwood floors. I wish I had pictures of before and after but my phone which had the pics went for a swim and did not survive. if you want somebody to do a complete job start to finish with ideas and suggestion to help you get thru the process, I recommend Robert Russell, his right hand man Vincent is a good worker and does almost anything with a house. Hendricks Construction Company (HCC) renovated my 1980's single family home. They installed a shingle roof, hard wood floors, new kitchen countertops, ceiling fans, and painted the entire house. They also converted an open space to an office by a building wall with beautiful pocket doors; This required moving electical outlets as well. HCC even fixed the clogged septic tank sewer lines. Having one crew in my home to complete this entire project was priceless. I also highly recommend HCC for their quality work, timely service, and very respectable crew. Birmingham, AL

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

      • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
        • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
      • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
        • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
      • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
        • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
      • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
        • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
      • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
        • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
        • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
        • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
          • Includes removal of the dura rock.
      • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

      • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
        • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
      • 620 square feet of maple floor:
        • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
        • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
          • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
