- What types of customers have you worked with?
I tutor students ages four through adult in many subjects. Reading, Writing, Math, GED, and English are the main subjects. I have worked for Sylvan Learning Center and do after school tutoring every school year. I always do a pretest on a student to discover what level they are working on and then we decide whether to concentrate on raising grades, filling in missing skills right away, or both. I had a student recently who apparently suffered from extreme text anxiety. I was able to help him from my personal experience and with some suggestions about when to study and how to relax during the test.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Make sure that your tutor is a credentialed teacher or has a great deal of experience in the subject you need tutored. Tutors needs to be patient, able to deal with behavior problems, etc. Quite often studentswork better with a tutor that they will with mom and dad because there aren't other issues involved. Unfortunately, it is much safer if the tutor meets your student at a library or at your house.
