What is more valuable than the time and effort your child wastes on a tennis court with the wrong coach? To me the cost is tremendous and the damage is irreparable. There can be no excuses and it should be immoral for poor coaching standards and lack of skills or interest in the development of a player. I have raised my concerns with Mr. Dale Caldwell who is on the board of USTA in the recent past as well as going back to sometime in 2009 when I met Dale by chance on an airplane flying from Charlotte to Newark. He was the President of the Eastern Section of USTA and my question to him has been the same ever since. How can we improve coaching standards for young players and what is USTA doing to improve them? Is it possible to evaluate coaching skills of coaches and rate and rank them? Anyone who follows the US tennis can see how US is faring compared to the rest of the world in terms of professional tennis players and performance in slams. It is not due to a lack of interest and we have a significant presence in the APT and WTA, however the performance outside of the Williams sisters of late has been bismal. Picking the wrong coach is expensive due to the irreplaceable lost time and effort and could possibly lead to low moral and eventually lack of interest from this beautiful and entertaining sport. Identifying and picking a good coach is critical but extremely difficult, finding a great coach is like finding a needle in a haystack. After spending nearly 4 years in the East Valley trying to find the perfect coach for my son, I was referred to Mr. Josh Bates who introduced me to Mr. Gustavo Sanchez. In my view, they have a great team and they truly provide a service to the young players of the valley which is unmatched in most parts of the country. I have been coached and see my children get coaching the best of clubs in group and individual lessons all over the country and nothing has come close in comparison. My son is 13 years old and over the past 8 years, I have spent a small fortune on his training and development and he has spend countless hours toiling on the tennis courts. Some of the coaches we found were good but mostly the experience has been a hit or a miss. Due to the nature of my business I relocate often as a result, it has been difficult stick with a good coach when we do find one. Gustavo and his team provide a complete and comprehensive training, fitness and provide and encourage match playing experience to truly develop and build young players. If you want measureable performance and achievement goals for your child and evaluate your child's performance. Look no further, Gustavo provides an update virtually after every session. If you are looking for someone to feed balls to your child without helping them understand the techniques look elsewhere, if you are looking to help them understand why they should do something and help them improve their techniques with proper exercises for strength and agility and reducing the likelihood of injuries, better foot work and drills you are possibly looking at the best team in the valley. If you have read the book "Complete Conditioning for Tennis", and you want to see it applied to your young player, you need no further, I think you will find everything you need and more with Gustavo and his team. In all these years, I have never had a coach share with me documented evidence of performance goals and keeping track of the player's development. He does bring his "A" game to the young players he takes on and my son is fortunate to have found him. He has produced great results for other players and I think my son will benefit tremendously from this association. I will update my review in about 4-6 months and report back to what my son has achieved during this period. I am sure it will be positive. I think he and his team have something special and it could be the start of something of IMG caliber or better, time will tell. I wish Gustavo and his team great success, because young players need great coaching especially if we want to build world class players in the country.

I first met Gustavo in AZ in 2008 when he was only 21 . I always watch tennis pros working with a player before I decide if I am going take lessons from them . After watching Gustavo, I was very impressed with his knowledge of the game and how well he constructed his lessons based on the level of the player with whom he is working. I have watched him work with players at all levels, right up to the pro level and each lesson is tailored to the individual. He is not just about hitting tennis balls at players. You get a lot from Gustavo -- you are getting an individual who knows the game, respects the game, and cares about your success. As a player, you are challenged with drills and more importantly he will improve your knowledge of the game and build on what you already know. For example, Gustavo will teach you how to construct points and when to go for the big shot or not. He is very mature as both an instructor and person. You should feel fortunate to have such a capable tennis pro working with you in AZ.

Gustavo is very patient to teach kids on technicals by trying to understand and see from kids standpoint view. He is very positive to build the team with player and parent, and the healthy relationship is the key for kids to have fun and develop efficient ly. I highly recommend him based on my son experience

Gustavo is by far the most ambitious and thorough coach my son has had the opportunity to train with. He is very personable and easy to work with. Above all he takes the time to communicate how he intends to help my son achieve his future tennis goals. The lessons he gives are innovative, keeping my young player engaged and interested in the process. Finding this type of quality, work ethic and passion in a coach is not easy to come by.

I have known Gustavo since I was a kid. He is very competent in coaching and is able to change techniques for various players. My brother and I have very different playing styles and Gustavo was able to adapt to both of us. Not only does he make you a better player physically, he knows what it takes to become mentally tough. I would recommend him to any player who is serious in advancing their tennis career.
