About
*Located in Chandler, AZ. Lessons offered virtually for all other locations!* -You don't have to become a classical musician to become a great cellist.- Hi! I'm Lisa, a professional cellist and music educator with 16 years of private teaching experience and 10 years of experience teaching orchestra in public schools. I hold a B.S. in K–12 Music Education and a master's degree in Education. I teach cello from beginner through advanced levels, including adults learning for the first time, returning players, and school/orchestra students. I also offer beginner and intermediate instruction in violin and viola. Strong technique matters. So do intonation, bow control, rhythm, music reading, theory, healthy playing habits, and learning how to practice effectively. But those skills aren't the destination. They're tools that help you make the music you actually want to make. My students' musical interests range from classical and orchestral repertoire to film and video game music, musical theatre, folk, pop, rock, progressive music, and metal. I actively perform traditional and contemporary music myself, including cello in a metal project. So one of the first things I want to know is: What do you want to be able to play? From there, we'll build the technique and musicianship to help you get there. I don't believe every student needs the same method book, repertoire sequence, or explanation. Over the years I've built an extensive library of method books, repertoire, exercises, technical materials, and supplemental resources that I draw from based on each student's goals and learning style. Sometimes that means traditional repertoire. Sometimes it means finding or adapting music you already love. Usually, it's a combination. Whether you've wanted to learn cello for years, you're returning to the instrument after time away, you're an orchestra student looking for more confidence, or traditional music lessons simply haven't clicked for you, you don't have to choose between excellent technique and music that actually matters to you. Lessons are available in 45- and 60-minute formats (30-minute lessons are available for very young students by request), with online and East Valley in-home options available. For in-home lessons, I travel to you. I'd love to hear what you dream of playing and help you build the skills to make it yours. 🤘

Lisa has been an amazing instructor thus far. Always friendly, warm, and caring in our sessions. She'll never make you feel disappointed, the encouragement is always overflowing. She makes the lessons fun and adapts to your pace. As a person who decided to pick up the cello in their 30s I couldn't be happier. If you're looking for an instructor you can always feel comfortable with that eases you into progress, pick Lisa. You won't regret it.

This has been a great experience as I start my cello journey. Even with the challenges that the virtual lesson atmosphere creates she is innovative in her communications and using technology in ways that serve her students well. Very grateful to have her as my instructor. Highly recommend!
