About
I love teaching guitar! I am very patient and understanding of the beginner guitar student. Everyone learns at their own pace.
I have been playing and teaching electric and acoustic guitar for over 25 years. My method gives a beginner guitar player a great foundation to build from. It is important to keep the learning experience fun and exciting. The first several lessons are laid out to master basics and peppered with tips and tricks to speed up technical ability. The student will be equipped to tackle many different styles of music. Plus, we start working on those songs you want to play as soon as possible! Rock, Blues, Country, Folk, Christian Rock, Heavy Metal, Hard Rock..you name it, we can work on it.
I Also teach music theory as related to the guitar. This will take the student to the next level making it easier to learn songs by ear and to write your own music! For those who wish to solo like a rock star we can do that as well! I teach lead guitar styles such as blues, hard rock, metal, country etc..
Please feel free to call or text with any questions! I also will supply acoustic or electric guitar during lessons if the student has not purchased yet. We will discuss which is best for you.
Typical pricing: $25 for 1/2 hour to 45 min. $30 for 1 hour.
My teaching location is at Bell rd and 16th st. (Living Stones Church)
I will come to your home for an additional $5.
Look forward to getting started with you!
Thanks for the opportunity!
John
I started many years ago teaching with my kids. I then started teaching friends who asked me to teach them. I had several friends tell me I should be a "real" guitar teacher because of my patience and passion. I then realized how rewarding it was to share my knowledge with others and see them grow as players and music lovers. The guitar has brought me so much joy over the years, I like to share that with others.

John arrived right on time and was fully prepared with lesson handouts. He was very professional and courteous, extremely patient with me, and his soft and quiet personality made me feel comfortable.
His knowledge of music theory and his mastery of the guitar are exquisite! I will continue to receive lessons from him.

John was so patient and kind with our 7 year old son! He quickly figured out what kind of music my son liked to play and would bring the perfect songs to teach him each week! I would absolutely recommend John for anyone wanting to learn the guitar!

After the first try-out lesson, the very first thing I asked my 13-year old son about John Miller, as a guitar teacher, and his approach to teaching was, "How do you like him?". My son's answer was an exuberant, "I like him. He's cool!".
Let me expound a little bit on that.
My son plays the piano and a little bit of string bass so he has intermediate knowledge of music, in general. As a guitar student, he is a complete beginner. After a couple more lessons, he often comes out of John's studio looking at ease, not compelled. In my mind, that told me we made a very good choice for a guitar teacher in John.
On a parent perspective, 25 miles of driving to his studio is not the best option considering I also had to deal with the 5pm-rush hour traffic. The good nature in John still managed to be very "accommodating". Eventually, we agreed to move back the schedule a half-hour later to relax the concern a little bit.
What needs to be said about John Miller, the guitar teacher?
Five Stars (*****), what else!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Typical lessons are around 45-60 minutes, sometimes longer or shorter. Often smaller children lose focus after 30 min. Lesson prices: $25 each.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Usually we will chat about musical interests, style of music you want to learn. Experience level on Guitar. Goals..play at church? Be in a band? Just have fun? We will establish lesson time and place. Some new students don't have instruments yet. I always have several choices of guitars that students can try out before they purchase.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Education: I took music theory classes in College and also lessons in different styles.I also have taken some guitar teaching classes. I have been playing the guitar for over 30 years. I have played in many Rock/blues bands as well as heavy metal. I started teaching guitar to family and friends years ago. Now I enjoy teaching beginner students of all ages.
