We purchased a house with saltillo tile throughout. While tile in bedrooms had been more recently installed and perhaps more properly cared for, the heavy-traffic rooms were a disaster, with sealant wearing thin, a bad color seal in the grout, and years of Mop-n-Glo or something similiar sealing dirt and grime into the grout.
AEG technicians came out to strip the tile in the entire house, then I put down a new grout color seal myself, and came back to reseal. Overall, the project was a HUGE success. The floors and beautiful and the improvement very satisfying. AEG was very flexible when I wanted to do some of the work myself (applying the color seal). The tech in charge even came back the day after the job was finished to add sealant, when my husband and I were afraid the kitchen, which had been so terrible originally and such a pain to strip, did not have quite enough sealant to stand up to the heavy use it gets.
I do think there could have been more professionalism in terms of the mess that stripping can create. First, there are a few new "character areas" in the floor where grime was ground into the tile in big circles by the stripping machine. Perhaps that's par for the course. Secondly, although the AEG technicians removed and protected furniture, they did not do the same for the walls. This could have been partially a miscommunication; I had told them not to worry too much about the old baseboard molding, since we were planning on replacing it. However, the soiled stripping solution was left splashed past the baseboard onto the walls, doors, and even absorbed into some unpainted wooden closet doors. It was impossible to clean, and we ended up having to repaint.
I would recommend AEG if you are up for a bit of babysitting (to protect walls and make sure floors get full coats, etc.) in exchange for fantastically transformed floors.
