Specific behaviors to address
Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: We ask more of you, ourselves and your dog. Often, this means patiently coaching you and your dogs through skill-building challenges. In addition to meeting with you in-person, we have developed a support strategy that produces a dynamic stress-free training experience. We deliver detailed session notes to your inbox after the lesson and we're available for support via text, email and phone 5 days a week. You no longer have to guess if you're doing it correctly. We have a different approach to training. We believe that a dog's emotional life is what drives his behavior, not "behavioral conditioning". This leads to a very satisfying training experience for both of you and positive changes that last. We can't wait to meet the next student and his people! We love the surprises, the challenges and being a part of the resolution of conflict and stress. But most of all, witnessing the development of an individual dog and the relationship with the owner, give us the most satisfaction. Sometimes it's enabling significant benefits from small, easily-made changes.

I highly recommend K9 Academy. Zena, my Pitbull, who is a tripod has done amazing well with Deborah's training.Zena was severely abused when I adopted her, and she is doing so well in the care of Deborah as well as I am. When I watch Zena while Deborah is training her, I am so pleased and proud at how well Zena does in her caring classroom. Deborah's assessment skills are spot on, and she is patient, adheres to Zena's disability, while teaching her useful training and obedience skills. In addition, I am learning to be a better human for Zena, meaning how to use positive reinforcement, display positive energy and calmness, how to handle a leash, and how to incorporate trust with Zena. So my deepest gratitude and thanks to K9 Academy for helping out Zena and myself. Also, I am a Disabled American Veteran with PTSD, and Deborah has shown me great compassion and taught me new strategies to deal with my disability too. Bravo K9 Academy!

Thank you, Debra. I know I've said it before, but I'll say it again - it is an honor to train with you and Zena!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Private Lessons: Private Lessons start at $110 each. Semi-Private Lessons are $60 each. Board & Train: We offer 2, 3 and 4 week Board & Train Programs. Prices range from $1750 to $3500. The exact cost is known after meeting for an Evaluation/Training Session. Pricing includes handling lessons for you. We're very good and patient people coaches too!

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

We start with an extra -long session; often up to an hour and a half. We use this time to listen carefully to the client, evaluate the dog's temperament and learning style and begin a few exercises. We write up the evaluation and training plan and send it via email. This serves as an initial guide to training in private lessons and as our promise to produce specific results in a Board & Train.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Michael founded Prescott K9 Academy in 1991 with a psychology degree concentrating on Animal Learning and Motivation, and a Master Trainer Certificate from a live-in, state approved vocational school for professional dog trainers. Deborah began her apprenticeship with Michael in 1997 and worked exclusively as a support trainer for more than a decade before achieving the level of experience and skill required to accurately evaluate dogs and design training programs herself. We enjoy reading the latest research on canine behavior and spending time with other accomplished trainers.
