John is the best!! If you do not hire him you are an idiot. John installed my base trim, hung a door and install iron supports for a granite counter top to a masonry wall. He was on time and on task. He doesn't charge enough and you should pay him extra anyway.

David's team is a high energy happy group that work quickly and do excellent work. I hired them to remove popcorn ceiling, texture and paint. They also did some dry wall patches to remove wired speakers in my kitchen, master bedroom, family room. They did a really good job and came back to finish up a couple of rough places after I'd paid them. I was impressed with their timeliness and quick work. For the most part, they were right on schedule. I think the highest compliment I can pay them, is to be willing to have them do more work. The attached pictures show ceiling texture, sealed and painted flat after popcorn removal. Not much to see, but that's what you'd want.

I hired Nick to remove the popcorn ceilings in my new house. From the start, Nick was quick to respond to my request for a quote. When we met at my house for him to look at the job, he gave me a good sense of what needed to be done and was incredibly friendly. The ceilings had been painted. So, he took great care to make sure that he didn't mess up the wall paint while he was pulling down the painted popcorn. While the work took longer than he originally estimated (5.5 days instead of 3), the ceilings looked great and he came over to touch up a few spots I noticed. The only downside was that the process itself is very messy. Even though Nick cleaned the floors, we have had to mop a few times to get up the dust. I did appreciate that he power washed my driveway to remove the inevitable white dust that comes with the removal of the ceilings. Nick does great work at a good price, and I would (and have) recommend him again.

We hired Richard to extend an existing block wall 50 feet between two properties and fabricate us a gate. Richard and his team were responsive, competitively priced, and provided us with exactly what we wanted! I threw him some curve balls throughout the process, and he was able to pivot accordingly. We are satisfied customers and would hire Richard again!

Ralph was very professional and reliable. I've hired him on multiple occasions, to name a few he built a patio wall and walkway for our front patio in our former home and most recently built an outdoor shed in our current home with which we are very pleased. He is very experienced, creative, and reasonable, I'd highly recommend him for any projects large or small.

Kevin did a great job fixing the holes in my walls. He was kind enough to fix the mistake of another repair man. Kevin's price to fix the hole was the most reasonable compared to the other quotes. I will definitely hire Kevin again and I highly recommend him. Thanks Kevin for being kind and doing a great job.

Randy was great to work with from start to end. He was communicative, on time and they worked efficiently and was very precise in his work. We ran into an issue with putting a few of the posts in the ground, but he was able to attach them to the wall instead and it actually came out better than it would have if they had been in the ground! They cleaned up and every thing looked great.

I had 7 large dry-wall holes in my house. Needed someone to come out and dry-wall the holes and plaster them. Danna's Drywall and Painting was the only professional who contacted me back regarding the job. He responds quickly and arrives on time. The walls were plastered and textured just like the original look. He did an excellent job and knows what he is doing. He also cleaned up the work area nicely. I would highly recommend his services to anyone looking for a professional.

I had a section of my master closet come off the wall. It created a lot of local damage. I found Eric on Thumbtack. He came to my home and gave me a very fair price to fix it. He arrived the next day to complete the work. It was done perfectly! Thanks Eric

Looks great can't even tell where large 3x4 ft hole in exterior wall was. Great job. He also did another job that was not discussed before he came and was able to complete that one also. Very Happy Customer!! See before and after.

Recently I moved to New house and found we have couple of nail marks on few walls. Also wanted to paint my kids bedroom and front door. I was worried about matching wall colors. Jenny paints so well everything looks new. now my kids are loving their bedroom. Also she put an extra efforts to match all the wall colors so well that all nail marks have vanished. And my house looks so beautiful. I like Jenny's dedication and quality hard work.

5 star company! Had them take out our builder grade tub and twin sink, install new higher profile toilet and put in a large walk in shower with sprayers at both ends with center entrance. Narsay and Sammy Bello did a great job explaining their process, timelines and how to save expense with our selections. Their tile guy was phenomenal as well. After we agreed on price and timelines we decided to add some extras like new lighting fixtures we had purchased and two very heavy mirrors - they agreed to hang them at no additional charge. We also had them install backsplash in our kitchen area and it turned out much better than our expectations. We had selected tile already for it and Sammy took the time to go shop for something we might like better and we loved his choice. He took our tile back to return it as well. Two very hardworking and experienced guys that I'd recommend for a major master bath remodel or kitchen remodel. Our son liked the work and is considering doing a similar project and we recommended Venus Homes LLC to him as well.

Sterling did a quality job on ripping out a wall, built in entertainment center, and then patching all the drywall. He was able to get the job done quickly as well. I would recommend him for future jobs.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
