FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

My Grandmother gave me a sewing machine for my birthday when I was 10 and the rest is history. I have been sewing since then. I started my PT sewing business in high school. I started working for professional manufacturers when I turned 18 to gain experience in a variety of sewing industries. Bridal, Sporrting Goods, Interior, Tailoring, Alterations.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Only use the best fabrics. I do not work with existing or store bought draperies and here is why: I had a customer bring me 8 packaged draperies that she wanted me to add more details and fabric to. Out of all 8 of them only two of them were the same length and pattern repeat although the package said they were all the same length and style. Some were up to 1" shorther than the others. The hems were not even on each side. Some were up to 1 " shorter on one side than the other. Additionally the fabric was very poor quality. How are these going to hang properly and look decent? I advised the customer of my findings and offerd for her to return the draperies before I began the work on them. I also forwarded photos with my measuring stick next to the draperies. She declined and told me to do the best that I could with them. It took me longer to work with these draperies than to start a new pair from scratch. That was when I vowed I only enjoy working with my own quality frabrics and projects from beginning to end.

  • What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Fabric can make or break draperies Not all draperies are the same. Store bought draperies will not have any where near the quality of custom draperies. Fabric, lining, durability, coverage, fee, hand, hang, etc.. Just because somoene can sew draperies does not mean they will be providing the best quality and materials. Work with a professional that primarily specializes in making custom drapery and upholstery on a full time basis. Most likely this professional will buy into the value of only working with designer quaility fabrics.
