Jeremy was the BEST ... on Thumbtack he is labeled as a handyman but he literally can do anything. He was on time, professional and ended up doing all kinds of things when we moved in (installed 8 ceiling fans - some very high, hung heavy items on walls, moved light sconce/electrical box locations) and he was so fast and efficient. We had lots of different contractors here and he actually helped them out on occasion. So great to work with and a great economical choice. Highly recommend.

We had our whole house painted by The Best Painters... I mean I everything in the home got a fresh coat of paint, the ceilings, the trim, the doors and the walls plus the garage. Alex did an amazing job fixing multiple places that had significant drywall damage (one area was so bad by the fireplace my family thought we got new sheetrock not a patch job). We also paid for new 4" baseboards to be installed, they look amazing and the price was hard to beat for the quality of work. What we liked most about Albert and his team was they came back at the end job and we could point out a few things we would like touch up. Albert even said over the next few months if we find any areas that need touch-up to let him know and he would send someone out to fix it. We have arrived a few painters and by fair, The Best Painters really are the BEST!

Doug did an excellent job. He was professional with his attention to detail and patient with me as I continued to add tasks to the job. He painted our garage doors/trim and shutters after repairing them and restoring them to good working order. He also recaulked our entire master bathroom, straightened out and tightened all the kitchen cupboards as well as did some drywall repair and hung curtain rods. I would recommend him to anyone in need and most definitely hire in the future. Oh, and he also fixed the striping on the bottom of our door going to/from the garage. He took it off the hinges and did it right by ensuring it was stapled onto the door (wasn't done by our homebuilder).

I was so pleased with Lane. The job I hired him to do was not as big as I was told by two previous contractors. He was thorough and took the time to make sure the job was done right the first time. The quality of his work was excellent. He explained what needed to be replaced and why and answered all of my questions. I would definately hire him again if the opportunity presented itself.

I hired Adrian for a project that involved installing a hanging rod in the closet and anchoring it into the drywall, as well as hanging a piece of artwork. He kept me in the loop as to his arrival time. He was very friendly, professional and completed the job in a timely manner at a reasonable price. I would highly recommend him for any type of home project, and will hire him in the future should I need any kind of assitance.

This guy knows what he's doing. Journeyman Services is my go-to for any remodel work I do on my home. Mr. Kern has exceptional attention to detail and has done an outstanding job on various projects around the house including drywall work, gas line installation, electrical line installation. and concrete cutting. I would recommend him for any project that needs done, and I have. He provides excellent work at a fair price and he truly cares about his projects.

Finesse painting did a great job painting the interior of my house, and did so for a reasonable price. They were courteous, professional, and fast. Nick was upfront about the cost for the job, and repaired all of the holes I had in my drywall. There were areas where curtain rods were removed, and Nick took care of them as well. If I need painting done again, I'll be sure to hire Finesse painting.

Mike was very timely. Came out within 2 hrs to look at job and gave me price. It was a drywall job so he put first coat on and returned a few hrs later to finish. We were very pleased with service and plan to use him in the near future.

We needed a dryer vent re-attached and some drywall repaired/textured/painted. I had three other people we have used in the past not return texts/calls so I turned to Thumbtack for help. I found Mr. Right Handyman (Joseph) and he was quick to respond, and find a time that worked for my schedule, his schedule, and our tenant's schedule. He's very professional and punctual, and he did an awesome job at getting this project finished. We will definitely be using him again in the future.

We found Larry and Joe on Thumbtack. They are both very nice and very skilled at everything that they did for us. Their drywall and texturing ability is amazing - you can't even tell there was a hole in the wall. Thye are also great at installing deadbolts and changing locks. They also installed a ceiling fan. They did a great job replacing the outside siding from termite damage. They removed a doggie door and covered the hole so that you can't tell it was there. We highly recommend them!!!!

Danna's Drywall provided a top notch service; head and shoulders above the rest. Quick, clean, and professional. Scheduling was a breeze and the price was extremely competitive. What more could you ask for? As a contractor myself, it was easy to see he was extremely qualified to preform the work. To top if off, he had a great attitude and offered joyful conversation while he repaired our ceiling. Texture matched spot on! I would personally recommend this service to anyone needing drywall repairs. Thanks Danna!

Morgan was a pleasure to talk with on the phone - she quickly found a specialist in my area for the same day. Alex came within about an hour after I called him. Immediately cleared off the stuff that was damaged by water and set up dehumidifier, fan, and applied treatment. Came back on the third day to wrap everything up. The area was completely dry and ready for drywall repair. It was a pleasure working with Alex. I would definitely hire them again. The price was very reasonable.

Noberto did a fantastic job with the drywall on this project and another we've already hired him for. He is one of the best mudsman (if that's such a thing) I've ever worked with. His attention to smoothing over the skim coat is detailed and meticulous. And he taught me the valuable life lesson of not coming to conclusions or making critical judgements until a job is 100% complete.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
