He never forced a rigid curriculum—instead, he listened to what I wanted to learn and built lesson plans around that. His grasp of both music and music theory was outstanding, and deep enough that I could throw him some odd requests and he’d still create a clear lesson plan. Whether I wanted to work on a specific style, dive into the nerdy side of harmony and chord structures, or make an arpeggiating chord-melody exercise that would teach me how to solo over any chord progression, Rich was able to make it happen.
