A microburst of wind blew approximately 30% of the roof off my mothers house. The wind was so strong it peeled the roof off from the front of the house to rear, and as the material peeled back it even moved the cooler, taking out a ventilation pipe as well.
My mom contacted her insurance company and they sent out a contractor to estimate the cost to repair the roof. Much to our surprise, the quoted price to repair the roof by this company, which shall remain anonymous, was several thousand dollars; perhaps the price we imagined it would be to do the entire roof. This price seemed quite exorbitant to repair just a portion of the roof, so we decided to get a couple other quotes on our own. To say the least, this company was very underhanded in their dealings. The contractor actually contacted the insurance company and told them that we had already signed a contract for them to do the work. This was obviously an attempt to get the insurance company committed, and it almost worked. The insurance company sent a check with the contractors name, which had to be canceled as we were not going to get a partial repair at such a high cost.
As you can imagine, this was a very stressful time for my mother and I because if any rains came, water would have easily gotten into the house causing further damage. I decided to search for reputable companies that could be trusted and I found Pro Star Construction, owed by Octavio Vasquez. Through my thorough search on the internet, I found many glowing reviews for the Octavio Vasquez which put me at ease. I contacted Octavio and he came out to survey the damage and spoke with my mother in person while I was at work. Although all of the positive reviews I read on Octavio and Pro Star Construction had put me at ease, I was still quite surprised when I spoke to my mother about her experience speaking with Octavio in person. My mother, who is a pretty good judge of a persons character, said that he was very informative about what the roof actually needed, what he would be doing if we went with him, how long it would take, etc. He was just very informative about the entire process and we actually learned a bit about roofing just from speaking with him; for example, the pros and cons of oil based versus water based reflective coatings.
Octavio presented 3 detailed quotes: One for just repairing the damaged area, another for repairing the damaged area and maintenance (reflective coat on undamaged portion), and a quote to redo the entire roof. Octavios quote to repair the entire roof was only about $700.00 more than the shady contractor wanted for repairing just the damaged area, which was only about 25-30% of the roof! We decided to have Octavio do the entire roof because of the great pricing and because it had been about 20 years since the last roof was put on. To put it into perspective how competitive on pricing Octavios company is, we did have another quote by another highly rated company, and their quote was over $2,000.00 higher to do the entire roof. Additionally, Octavio displayed his integrity on several occasions because he had many opportunities to do work which was not necessary and he flat out told us it did not need to be done. For example, the house is in need of a paint job and the paint has peeled off of the fascia- wood at the edges of the roof in many areas. This wood looks bad in some areas, and to a person with limited knowledge, it would appear that this wood should be replaced, but Octavio said that it just needs to be prepped and painted, and replacement was not necessary. Can you imagine how many contractors would have been chomping at the bit to do this extra work?
Octavio (Pro Star Construction) is a throwback to a time long passed. At time where contractors and other businesses were not just in it to win it and rip people off by overcharging and doing work thats not needed. If you need your roof done, or any other type of work (Octavio does other work as well), I highly recommend you contact Pro Star Construction. I know whenever we need other work done; Octavio will be getting a call from us.

I hired 5-star to re-roof my rental, and they provided me with reasonable options, one that saved me a lot of $$. The work took longer than estimated (like most contractors I've dealt with), but the results were great!

I contacted Octavio with ProStar Construction LLC to re-roof my house. Octavio negotiated a very fair price. And in servicing the job, added further components that were not in the initial contract. He stayed with his negotiated price, while doing quality work above and beyond my expectations! Octavio and his crew were hardworking and polite. The professionalism was seen in all aspects of the project.
I would, without hesitation, recommend ProStar Construction for any job that you may be considering.

Mr. Vasquez far surpassed our expectations for the work he did on both of our homes. He replaced the roof on a rental home and we were so pleased with the work done that we requested his services to coat the roof on our primary home. He was professional and personable. He responded to both requests immediately, kept us in the loop while he was working up estimates and his pricing for both jobs was well under the other bids we sought, 2 of whom didn't return my calls and one who did not show up for a scheduled appointment to view the roof! He was very thoughtful about approaching both jobs for best results and used superior materials. He exceeded our expectations in his efforts to clean-up after the work was completed and with his personal follow-up with us for both jobs. We will definitely use his service in the future. I strongly recommend Mr. Vasquez and ProStar Construction.
