Tree trimming, bush trimming, grass cutting, weed control and some landscaping. Crew was professional and on time. Very impressed with their attention to detail! Will definitely be using these guys again instead of my other yard maintenance crew. Highly recommended! My yard was an absolute disaster with weeds up to 5 feet tall, due to the heavy rains. My yard is now clean and neat. Very impressed and pleased with the work that was done. Thank you Andy!

Wish there was an option for more than 5 stars. Rick and his team removed a huge pine tree (at least 3x the height of our house) from our front yard, hauled away all the wood and cleaned up the debris. Rick and his team members were courteous and professional, arrived at the scheduled time and demonstrated tremendous knowledge and skill. Rick cut the tree and had it drop exactly where he said it would. It was an impressive sight to see, and the accuracy was truly amazing. Rick and his team did an exceptional job and the hard work was much appreciated. We are more than pleased, and will definitely refer friends and family to Rick for any future landscape and/or tree trimming/removal work. He truly demonstrated that he is a top-notch professional and an expert in his field. He is, without a doubt, the one to choose for any tree trimming/removal and landscaping needs.

Jesus and his 3-man crew trimmed a very large mesquite tree and a palm tree for my father-in-law at his home in Flowing Wells on November 14, 2015. The crew arrived on-time, worked very hard, and did an outstanding job. All members of the crew were very courteous and professional. They also did an excellent job of cleaning up all the branches and debris and disposing of it for us. I would be pleased to recommend Jesus and his crew to anyone who needs tree trimming services. Thank you again, Jesus, for a great job done in a timely manner Butch M..

My wife and I hired Larry to do a complete overhaul to our yard, including trimming current trees, cutting down a couple of dead trees, installing artificial grass and gravel, as well as getting new trees and installing pavers. Upon our initial meeting with Larry, we were truly impressed with his professionalism and eagerness to start the project. The finished project far exceeded our expectations while still being affordable, and we would recommend him for any sized project. Thank you Larry!

I had a large brush removal job after trimming out several large (thorny) mesquites and yard area that had not been cleaned out in over 20 years. I asked for estimates to bid the "entire job" from four sources. Two would only give me a daily rate and said "let's see where it gets us". Walter bid the job as I asked. His bid was by far the lowest of all four. He stuck to it and did a superb job. He is very easy to work with. I was so impressed by him that I ended up hiring him afterwards to be my monthly maintenance gardener. I can't say enough good about him.

I hired American Landscape to work on my large, overgrown front yard. This included pruning several huge mesquite trees that were full of mistletoe, removing palo verde trees, trimming up cactus, cleaning up and hauling away several trailer loads of debris. I am very impressed with the professionalism of Forrest & Steven. They communicated with me on every detail. Forrest went above and beyond what I expected, utilizing plants and rock that were available to create a beautiful, flowing landscape design. I have other projects I would like to begin. I will be hiring American Landscape again.

Jesus looked up the property and went by in person so he could give a more accurate quote. He showed up the next morning at the time we set up. He had the proper equipment including a trailer with the ability to carry off the trimmings. He and his co-worker did a very good job trimming the trees. He cleaned up afterward so you would not even know he was there! The elderly lady who rents the property was extremely happy, as were we, the homeowners. We would recommend Jesus to anyone needing their trees trimmed.

It was a pleasure working with Sundown. I hired them for general maintenance, trimming, removing debris and overall clean up. Also planted a few lantanas in the front yard. Reasonably priced, professional and very communicative. I highly recommend Sundown and plan on using them for regular service.

I am so pleased with Barry's quick response, preparedness and quality work ethic. He has a great pruning "eye" and trimmed my oak tree, and now it's the best on the block. He's definitely a "keeper" in my book. Great job, Barry, and thanks.

Esteban trimmed two trees for my rental property a couple of months ago (I'm late in submitting a review!). He crowned the mesquite tree and cleaned up nicely. I was most impressed with the bottle brush tree in the back yard. This bad boy was at 50 feet tall and desperately needed a trim. He thinned it out at the top down toward the middle and it looks GREAT! We are no longer worried about it toppling over during the next storm. He gave me a great price, was prompt to get the job done on time and respectful of the tenants on the property. I strongly recommend Esteban for any tree trimming needs and I will definitely use his services again!

Ruben provides excellent service; he is professional and friendly, ensuring that his work complies with your specifications and goes above and beyond by making sure that the client is completely satisfied with the job. He cleaned a rental property for me, removed old carpet, cleaned the yard from weeds and dried plants, trimmed the trees, and took all the trash with him. My property was available for rent again in no time. I highly recommend his services, and will call on him again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to have your lawn mowed?

Regular lawn maintenance can do wonders for your home’s curb appeal. Professional lawn care prices will vary based on the regional cost to do business and regional cost of labor, the size of your lawn, and any additional services you may desire such as edging or mulching. The national average for lawn mowing costs is $30-$50. Pros may charge an hourly rate, a flat rate or by the square foot (an acre contains 43,560 square feet). Square footage rates factor in the professional’s time, the use of their equipment, and the gas to operate the mower. Distance may also affect cost: If you live outside the company’s standard service range, you may pay an additional travel fee. Here are some examples of average prices for mowing and lawn maintenance:

  • Up to 8,000-square-foot property: $30 per week/$120 per month.
    • Bimonthly: $40 per service/$80 per month.
    • One time only: $45 per service.
      • Prices include mowing all turf grass areas; trimming grass away from fences, structures, trees, and lawn edges; and clearing or blowing all grass trimmings from driveways, sidewalks, curbs, etc.
  • Hourly rate: $25 per hour (including travel, equipment costs and labor).
  • Lot size:
    • Smaller lots in subdivisions: $35.
    • Half-acre lot: $50.
    • One-acre lot: $100.
