Stacy Frick can see things in a shot that no one else can. She is extremely creative and is constantly finding the BEST places to shoot. She has brought out the natural beauty in my daughter that other photographers have not been able to capture.

Having flown in for only a few days, I was struggling to find a good photographer for my family portraits on such short notice. I found Michael online and explained my situation and he was more than willing to oblige and we got a session booked the following day! I, as well as the rest of my family, were very impressed by his work and professionalism. He was more than willing to hear our ideas and even recommended some we thought to be better than we wanted! Definitely something you want out of your photographer. I look forward to taking more photos with Michael next year! Thanks again!

We have known Philip personally for six years....and decided to ask him to do some maternity shots, and more recently, pictures of our daighter's baptism. He has always been an outstanding photographer, who doesn't see taking pictures as a simple "hobby" but, takes it to a professional level to make it his ultimate goal to make sure we were amazed at the memorable moments that he is able to capture. We were beyond amazed at his photos! As a photographer, he is always flexible, friendly, has a great sense of humor and always makes the sessions fun! What also really stands out about Philip is that he is creative and is willing to "think outside the box" and to take clients' own ideas and personalities into consideration. I've also seen Phillip's work in a variety of settings- from senior pictures, to action shots with athletes, to weddings and quinceañeras, no job is too small or too big! He always made sure we were more than satisfied with the photos, which we will always treasure! Thank you Philip!

Craig was so much more than a videographer but helped us trouble-shoot and mange the presenters through the process, which is more than half the battle if you don't know it. We do videography across the U.S. and he would get our number one rating of all the videographers we worked with from a technical perspective all the way through the personal guidance he gave to our remote presenters. We have a high stress, have to get it right service and I would recommend Craig to anybody considering his services. Thank you Craig. Craig is our go to guy in Arizona.

We just had Melissa do our wedding and OMG we want to make her part of the family! Everything turned out perfect, all of our friends and family want her contact information if they ever need her services. My wife and I just visited her home to pick up the final copies and as we drove away we were talking about how professional and vibrant all the photos turned out and for the price she charged us we could only come to one conclusion, Melissa doesn't do it for the money (well everyone needs to be paid) but the reason all the photos turned out is because its not about the money its about her passion. If you are looking for other photographers and you find they are nickel and diming you then you wont get the passion that Melissa has in your photos. If you pass her up to work your event then you just made a huge mistake. Melissa we love you and look forward to having you over, you're the best!!!!

Susan was able to capture Chico's character immediately. I found her to be very personable and friendly, and Chico who is sometimes uncomfortable around someone she doesn't know was instantly at ease which came through in her pictures that she took. I am including one of the proofs, which is one of my personal favorites. If you are looking for a photographer who can comfortably take the most beautiful and brilliant shots of your pet, you need not look any further, Susan is an artist!

            Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

            • Package 1: $1,400
              • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
              • Two cameras with audio equipment.
              • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
              • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
            • Package 2: $1,800
              • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.
