I am working on the remainder of these questions as I have time.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
Two circumstances combined to put me in the roofing business on July 8, 1980. The first circumstance: I owned a Real Estate company and we were having problems finding roofers that understood how important closing dates were. All the documents are prepared, the money is ready, the moving trucks are scheduled, kids are enrolled in school, and etc. The home must be ready to close. I told a roofer on Tuesday that I had to have the roof done for a Closing date on Friday. He replied that he had a date on Friday to drink beer. The second circumstance: I was building Lindal Cedar Homes in addition to being a Realtor. One of the individuals that got me involved in home construction in 1977 with Lindal introduced me to the roof coating industry. It was quite new in 1980. I am an environmentalist and a Veteran. Roofing with materials that were made in the United States that saved energy and cost less appealed to me. We install shingles, tile, metal and flat roofs. We incorporate the coatings in to every project when appropriate. No tar at roof penetrations we use coating and membrane reinforcement, we coat the wood battens under tile to make them last longer. There are many other areas where we do it better by using quality materials that do not contain petroleum.
