Linda Duclos helped me create a stunningly beautiful wedding gown in just 4 1/2 weeks.
I met Linda while shopping for wedding fabric downtown L.A. We met briefly while standing in line as her client over heard me talking to the owner of the store about my swiftly approaching wedding. Her client cut nicely into our conversation. She asked me who was making my dress. I said I'm not sure but needed to find some immediately. She told me about Linda who designed many costumes and special event dresses for her. Linda over heard her talking to me and she poked her around head to say hello. We spoke briefly and she gave me her number. I walked away with a good sense of, " I'm definitively going to give this woman a call!"
I had found some great vintage wedding patterns and vintage evening dress patterns off the net. Unfortunately most the patterns I choose were sold out. But I downloaded the pattern covers anyway for reference.
I spoke with Linda I think it was the next day. I made an appointment and went to see her at her lovely home. After seeing her portfolio and chatting with her about her work, I couldn't help but see she had a excellent eye for detail; for craftsmanship, which I respect so much and love because I was costume designer for a long time. I know what it takes to make a garment of choice.
I gave her my fabric and it began. She was awesome and let me figure out the real look I wanted; along with her insightful input that I needed to anchor help my ideas. Linda was really patient with me at every turn of the design and in the building of the dress. I was able to tell her how I felt and if I felt I'd something should be different in the design; she was always very gracious and very quick with changes and too with the fittings.
I absolutely loved talking with her and she loves to laugh, which is great because as you know weddings can be a mix bag of stress with little sleep and in my case really tight time constraints. I was capable but too stressed out to sew my own gown and to fit it myself. In doing so much for the big day in such a short amount of time I had to decline myself. But Linda saved my bum, big time on this one and made it look so good!!
She is fantastic and lots of fun. Oh, I also asked her to design and quickly built my bridesmaids skirts. And she did. She's making one for me, their gorgeous with a capitol G!!! I'm hiring Linda for many more upcoming projects and I look forward to it; can't wait!!
So my wedding was really very beautiful. It was held at an old 1920's historical estate in Sherman Oaks, CA. It was a misty overcast day. I walked down the isle escorted by my dad led by an incredible bagpiper Max Gillespie. (I married a Scotsman so it was the right thing to do.) My dress was truly admired by the guests, woman and men alike. Most of the guest knew I loved vintage clothing and Europe. So they thought I must of found it in England, Ireland or France. I said no, I hadn't, but instead I was able to tell them the magical tale of designer Linda Duclos. :o) xx
