    Roijoy Photography

    (37 reviews)

Originally from the UK, I'm now based in the San Francisco Bay Area. I provide images with imagination for a very diverse spread of client needs that include lifestyle, portraits, products, headshots, engagements, weddings, and other events. I work with start-ups, corporate clients, video production companies, and private individuals, producing images that range from portraits to share with friends and families to global advertising campaigns for multinational brands. The following is a note about headshots and portraits: If you need a headshot or portrait and don't want to travel to a studio, I can come to your home or office with a mobile studio setup and capture your photos in a surrounding that is familiar to you. If you are at your home, it means that you also have your whole wardrobe and accessories available to you during the shoot. There is no extra charge for this service. I've worked in advertising and design all my life. I have lived and worked in the UK, the Middle East, and the Caribbean. I currently service clients throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, the rest of the US, and international destinations. So when you need your next image(s), consider having them sprinkled with a little "roijoy," so that you can become the proud owner of some images with imagination. I have an expert level of retouching and image manipulation skills. Have your images straight out of the camera or succumb to the lure of all that is digitally possible; it's your choice. How much does it all cost? Usually, it's less than you expected. For all assignments, once we agree on the price. The quality of the work is consistent with all that I produce. I do have a reputation to protect; you know. Cheers, Roi

First and foremost - I love what I do. I feel privileged to be able to make art every day and to share it with my clients. My goal is to make images speak, exposing "how it feels". I try to achieve in my work: balance, beauty, consistency and continual growth. I think my photography stands out from others as I have shot on film my entire life. I focus on "real moments", a more journalistic style of wedding photography. I switched to digital about five years ago. But when I make my photos I strive to get the shot right the first time "in camera" - not in Photoshop! A lot of photographers overly utilize Photoshop and manipulate their photos far beyond what they originally shot. With my work, I only use Lightroom as a "digital darkroom" to develop my colors of what I saw and try my best to make that shot perfect in my eyes to begin with. Photoshop is only used in my work if something major needs to be done, mistake, or a client has a special request for that magazine look of brushing, for example a fashion shoot, modeling ad and so on. No one should "rely" on Photoshop. You should rely on your "photography skills" - while on the job. Rates: Contact me (varying rate depending on event) Cancellation: $50 cancellation fee for (engagement shoots) I get the freedom to express how I see the world through my lens. These images are seen through my eyes with the help of my camera. My intention has always been to put the viewer in the moment, of actually feeling like they are in the photo, standing at the viewpoint, gazing, and leaving it up to the viewer to interpret their own feelings. I want to find the camera angle from which this feeling can be the most that they can be whatever that is. If it is the grace of the clouds, then I want the angle from which that grace becomes the absolute most it can be at that moment. And so it leads me on, to explore angles, space, reflections, and light. I strive to make "moments" make sense visually, and trust that the metaphor, meaning, will follow.

I am a Marine Corps Veteran, KU Film and Media Studies graduate and seasoned Freelance Photographer residing in the San Francisco bay. Originally from the Kansas City area, I picked up a camera shortly after being honorably discharged from the Marines back in 2008 and through hard work and dedication I figured out a way to make a living doing something I love. I am open-minded and can adapt to any situation you put me in. It is my mission to create awesome photos no matter what the circumstances are. Each request that I take on tends to be unique, from being inches away from the stage at a rock show to being deep in a cave in the middle of nowhere with deafening silence, the thrill of not knowing what I will photograph next is what keeps me clicking. I am not your average "turn and burn" photographer that just wants to get in, collect a paycheck, then get out. I pride myself in producing images that stand out. Ones that my clients are proud to showcase for years to come. What I like most about my job is meeting new people and being able to express my creativity while helping their businesses grow. It is very rewarding to see my clients proudly showcase the photos I helped them produce.

I take my time setting up the shot for best results. Never in a hurry to "finish and go home". Often I will spend more time than what I charge for. I am very particular with post processing, paying attention to the very small details. My hobby is also my profession. And I love it!

This is a tough one. I have to admit to not being particularly creative behind the camera for most of the work I do. My clients quite simply don't require it. I try, however, to be as prepared as possible prior to every job, often asking questions up until the last moment before leaving home. I make every attempt to get photographs to my clients as quickly as possible, and I am almost always of good nature, from first contact until the delivery of the photos. Cliché though it might seem, I most enjoy meeting the people I work with. The San Francisco area boasts such a diverse populace in background, personalities and interests that it's a pleasure meeting and chatting with them. As a relative newcomer to the Bay Area, it's also interesting to meet those who are lifelong residents of the city, as well as to learn how non-native San Franciscans came to live here.

There is a saying that ‘a picture is worth a 1000 words’. I love to capture the essence of the event. I just don't take pictures to collect a pay check, I love what I do and I have pride at my work. I want my clients to hire me for their future events and refer me to their friends and family because they love my work. Photos are all about capturing that perfect moment. And whether it's a Wedding, Birthday, baby shower, an anniversary or simply photos of your newborn, its moments like those which can be relived over and over. My passion as natural photographer, drives me to focus on images that are "in the moment", natural, and candid. In partnership with Wahida Jamal, our collaborative experience are both creative and detail oriented. Most of the time I only use 'iPhoto' or 'Lightroom' to edit the pictures. I use the photoshop only if there is a special request by the client. I love what I do, the most amazing part of my job is how different every job is. I go to different locations, different functions. I meet different people and experience wide variety of cultures. I have been to many countries and been exposed to many cultures, but I still experience something new all the time. I like to be open minded and work with the client to make sure their special day, special event stays special.

Thumbtack Spotlight

Roijoy Photography

Whether you are an individual looking for someone to take your family's portrait or a business owner trying to find someone who could help you with advertising shots, Roi Brooks is the man for you. He can take your vision and produce stills that come straight out of your imagination.

I love that my job allows me to be creative. It also allows me to meet an incredibly diverse selection of people. All of them are wonderful in their own ways, and some are strange and unique characters. I also do a lot of work with start-ups and corporations covering a really wide range of products and services. I've photographed things that I had no idea were even being made and sold. Last year, I literally traveled the full circumference of the globe shooting for one of my clients. Managing my camera gear was one thing, but packing clothing that would work for below freezing ice and snow to hot exotic beach destinations was the real challenge!

Roi is based in Petaluma, CA. He offers lifestyle, portrait, product, head shot, engagement, and wedding photography services.

My most memorable shoot that came through Thumbtack was for Cirque de Soleil when they were on tour in San Francisco. Initially, they wanted headshots and portraits for about 30 of the troupe members in their "civilian" wear. After meeting the tour manager and chatting for a while, the work expanded to include some more photos with the performers fully made up and some incidental shots for their PR and marketing materials. I spent the whole day with them and ate, chatted, and mixed with the whole production. At the end of my shooting day, they also gave me ringside seats at that evening's performance!

For photos that let your story come alive, look no further. Book a session with Roi Brooks today.
