FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
The cost of a project depends upon the type of editing required, the scope of the project, the condition of the manuscript, word count, your schedule/any deadlines, and my current workload. (Note: the industry standard for a manuscript page is a firm 250 words.) Fair and competitive, my rates are in line with the EFA (Editorial Freelancers Association) standards. Once I know the answers to these questions and see the manuscript, I’ll be able to provide a more specific estimate. Editing is an investment in your work, and I strive to provide services you need at rates you can afford.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We discuss your project in detail, via email or phone, to determine the type of editing you think will help most. I offer a free sample for copyediting for most manuscripts. Once we decide to collaborate and agree on schedule and payment, I start editing.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I earned an MFA in fiction from the Bennington College Writing Seminars and a BA in English and a minor in French from the University of Michigan. I trained to be an editor by completing multiple courses taught by professional editors through the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA). My continuing education and professional development involve membership and participation in other organizations as well, such as the American Copy Editors Society (ACES) and the Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP). Finally, my decade-plus of experience tutoring ESL students has taught me how to communicate clearly and patiently with an ear and eye for linguistic nuances—and a good dose of humor.
