FAQs
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
When shopping for a coach, counselor or therapist keep in mind you want the best fit. Coaches in California are not required to be licencensed or certified as a coach although many have completed coaching education programs. The scope of practice is different for coaches, hypnotherapists and psychotherapists. Coaches and hypnotherapists, counselors and other practicioners of alternative health and wellness approaches will usually offer a written "informed consent form" that will inform you ahead of time that their practice is not intended as psychotherapy or medical treatment. Informed consent and a review of services you can expect from the practitioner should be covered in an initial consultation before beginning working together. You may even wish to have a written contract agreement to detail the scope of work you will cover working with a coach. If you don't feel comfortable with the practitioner or it doesn't seem like a good fit, don't agree to begin working with them. Even if after beginning to work with a practitioner, you feel as if something has changed in the relationship, you've recieved all the help you think you can recieve from the practitioner or you're uncomfortable continuing to work with the practitioner, simply explain and discontinue your working relationship.
