Do you have a standard pricing system for your service? If so, please share the details here.
As far as pricing goes, please bear in mind that there are two costs: my costs (what you pay me to design and launch the site) and then there are auxiliary services (such as hosting and domain name registration) that will need to be paid directly to those providers. At this time, I do not provide hosting or domain name registration myself, but I can walk you through the process if it's daunting to you.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was trying to put up a website for my other career as an actor - something that would just have some pictures, my resume, and some reviews. I found a tool called Weebly (which is a great, DIY website builder) which made the process a lot easier, but it also provided a gateway to more questions and explorations about what a website is made of and how it gets published and shown to the world. I began reading more and more, and eventually started hand-coding sites from scratch. Through trial and error, I gradually built up enough confidence to start selling my services to small businesses and individuals.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I would advise people shopping for web designers to be very clear about what they want - get some example sites together, plan out your content, and even a marketing plan for once the site is launched. This will be of INFINITE help to the designer, as they will be able to construct a customized experience for you based on what you know you'll need. That doesn't mean things can't change in the future, but you'll make life easier for your designer, and you'll have a much more fulfilling experience.
